Evaluation of Combination Antiplatelet Therapy in the Prevention of Second Stroke: CURE Study

  • ER-DP + ASA is significantly more effective than ASA alone in stroke prevention.
  • Ticlopidine also reduces the risk of second stroke, however the risk of associated neutropenia is considered unacceptable.
  • Clopidogrel reduces the stroke risk in the combined endpoint (Stroke, MI, vascular death) by 7.3% in stroke patients as compared to ASA alone. This reduction is not statistically significant.
